Cross-functional integration of business units

Cross-functional integration of business units

EMEA, Southeast Asia and North America

Large industrial capital equipment supplier operating six offices located in five countries.

Challenge

Through four hubs the company was dealing with a large number of projects at various stages simultaneously. The project execution team was faced with the challenge to leverage its project selection and execution success. As a result of the post-acquisition integration, the local entities have reached larger markets but are faced with an increasing need for structure and tools to manage project portfolios, from sale to delivery.

Project Governance and portfolio management
  • Centralized management of portfolios, which includes identifying, prioritizing, authorizing, managing, and controlling projects and other related work, in order to achieve the specific objectives.

  • Project selection process improvement and training for selection based on multidisciplinary analysis: risk, cash flow and business conditions. Creation of a centralized project selection portal recording all stages of the process.

  • Develop a work package philosophy to share workload across offices. Implementation of a unique timesheet system to support multi offices collaboration.

  • Productivity tools and process improvement (cost forecast template, deliverables list, procurement schedule). Creation of a project review portal using SharePoint.

  • Creation of an open culture for escalation and discussion of issues and requests, with local PMOs.

  • Initiation of project management training program.
